The Silca Aero Race Socks came into being soon after CEO Josh Poertner convinced one of the brand’s pro teams that they’d get worthwhile aerodynamic savings by wearing traditional Lycra® aero socks. He soon realised that, as impressive as they were in terms of marginal gains, these kept falling down and weren’t much fun to wear.

So, Josh set out to create better product that delivered an aerodynamic advantage alongside everyday comfort. A collaboration with a well-known Italian hosier led to the creation of knitted socks that, due to the addition of rows of ‘turbulators’, slightly raised areas that ensured air adhered to them longer, deliver an impressive saving of 4-8 watts compared with standard offerings. In fact, they perform as well as ribbed Lycra® aero socks of the same height.

Unlike those, the Silca Aero Race Socks are constructed from Q-Skin, a fabric with integrated silver ions that controls bacteria and moisture, thus tackling odour and keeping your feet dry during your greatest efforts. Even better, they’re smooth, comfortable enough to wear every day, and have been sewn so that the toe seams are minimised for added luxury.
